The year was 1998 and, amidst all the drama of the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal, the world was also surprisingly gripped by a little experimental thriller film out of Germany after it premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Run Lola Run, a high-octane story about a young woman racing to obtain 100,000 Deutschmarks to save her boyfriend from being killed by the mob boss he works for, was a runaway hit in the summer of 1998, thanks to its riveting, fast-paced story, catchy techno soundtrack, and a breakout performance by star Franka Potente.
