As we discussed earlier this week, Director Sean Baker is enjoying praise for his film Anora. Everyone loves this guy, but it feels like the public does not realize that he made movies before his hit film Tangerine (the one that was known for being filmed on an iPhone). He had a great film before Tangerine and it had stunning nudity! Let's talk about his supremely underrated film Starlet from 2012.
Starlet is an indie drama with a lot of great nude scenes. In this movie, a 21-year-old becomes friends with her much older neighbor after she discovers a hidden wad of cash inside of a trinket that she bought at her neighbor's yard sale. The young woman is also an adult film actress played by Dree Hemingway.
Baker loves for his films to star people who work in and around sex. In 2015's Tangerine, the trans actresses were also sex workers. In The Florida Project, the mother was an addict who appeared to get money through sex work. In Red Rocket, there was an aging porn star at the center of the story. Finally, Anora stars Mikey Madison as a high-class escort in Las Vegas. That's a lot of sex! He doesn't make any of it seem seedy. Instead, he shows them all tenderly and gives his characters a lot of humanity. That's why he's a unique director with a distinct style. Starlet is no different.
In Starlet, Dree does not give the money back. The sex worker takes her neighbor to Paris instead, pissing off her jealous roommate played by Stella Maeve. Stella Maeve makes herself known in plenty of situations that show off her juicy booty. The young women act in porn and we get to see some of those film shoots in the movie!
There are plenty of real porn performers in the movie. Kaci Starr and Lily Labeau both unveil rackage in a POV porn scene. Tracey Sweet is as sweet as pie when she takes off her top to show tits in a cam girl session. Sweet gives us the sugar!
Oh, and there is a cum shot. I told you: Starlet gets real when it comes to sex and nudity. Thank you, Mr. Baker, for your amazing direction.
What about Dree Hemingway? Well, Ernest Hemingway's great-granddaughter does not actually go nude. It looks like she does, but she doesn't. She uses a body double. That being said, we can see her cleavage and her long legs in a few sexy scenes.
Anora is going to have some really hot nude scenes as well. As we look forward to seeing those scenes and putting them on the website, we can enjoy checking out some of Baker's early work. If you love sex and nudity in movies - and who doesn't? - then don't sleep on Starlet. At the very least, watch the nude scenes on Mr. Skin.
