Dammi (2023)

Riz Ahmed plays a man returning to Paris after decades of living in London in an attempt to reconnect with his father and learn about his Algerian roots. It’s a short film that glides through both the past and the present, the latter of which has him encountering a French woman of Algerian descent that helps serve as a bridge between the two worlds he feels constantly at odds with. At one point Riz and Souheila Yacoub are seen submerged in water, and we spot the faintest bit of nip while she reaches for the surface. Dammi, those are some fine flotation devices!
